Developing Local Talent for Careers in Manufacturing

There is a growing opportunity to inspire and develop the next generation of manufacturing talent, as investment in early workforce development continues to shape the future of the industry.

At JVIS, this commitment has become a core focus through several key initiatives, including Manufacturing Day, summer internships, job shadowing opportunities, and our Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Program.

We are fortunate to be part of a strong and supportive community in Macomb County, where organizations actively work to connect education and industry. The Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development plays an important role in organizing Manufacturing Day and fostering engagement between local schools and businesses. Their efforts help create meaningful opportunities for students to explore careers in manufacturing.

Manufacturing Day at JVIS

For the past three years, JVIS has had the honor of participating in Manufacturing Day by hosting students at our Shelby Township facilities. Schools we have welcomed include Utica Community Schools’ Utica Center for Science and Industry, L’Anse Creuse Public Schools’ Pankow Center, and Henry Ford II High School. These visits provide valuable exposure to modern manufacturing and allow students to engage directly with our engineers, technicians, and skilled trades professionals.

Summer Internships & Job Shadowing

Our summer internship program delivers hands-on experience across multiple disciplines, including engineering, marketing, and information technology. In the summer of 2025, JVIS hosted seven interns, three of whom transitioned into part-time roles while completing their degrees, demonstrating a clear pathway from education to employment.

In addition, JVIS offers job shadowing opportunities that give students a closer look at day-to-day operations across departments. These experiences provide valuable insight into career paths within manufacturing and help students better understand the skills and education needed to succeed in the industry.

In-House Apprenticeship Program

One of the initiatives we are most proud of is our in-house Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Program, which helps address workforce shortages by developing talent within our local community. With five apprentices currently enrolled and set to transition into full-time roles this May, the program is already making a measurable impact.

In addition to these efforts, our team actively participates in local job fairs and high school events, helping introduce students to careers in manufacturing while continuing to attract and develop future talent for our industry.

Looking Ahead

These efforts continue to gain recognition within our community. JVIS was honored to be nominated for the 2026 Macomb Business Awards in the Fueling the Talent Pipeline category, reflecting our ongoing commitment to connecting students and early-career professionals with meaningful, real-world opportunities. This builds on the momentum of 2025, when JVIS was recognized as a runner-up for Manufacturer of the Year in Macomb County, highlighting our continued growth and investment in our people.

Through these efforts, JVIS is building a strong, sustainable talent pipeline that supports both our organization and the future of the manufacturing industry. We are proud to be part of a community that places a strong emphasis on supporting local businesses and developing the next generation of talent.

We look forward to what’s ahead for our industry and the continued opportunities to make a meaningful impact.
