JVIS supports local High School Robotics Team
JVIS USA, LLC is a proud sponsor for the 2015-2016 Waterford Kettering High School Robotics Team. Team 3098 : The Captains
The Captains have just returned from the World Championship competition, which was held in St. Louis on April 27-30, 2016. This is the fourth time they have made it to “Worlds” since the team’s inception in 2009. Lead by Mr. Smitka, Team 3098 started out with only 12 students and 2 mentors and has now grown to 47 students and 11 mentors. The focus of the team is to not just to build a robot but to explore all areas of robotics through design, mechanics, electronics, and programming.
Before setting off for “Worlds” Jonathan Sobolnitsky, a member of Team 3098 stated, “This team effort took many hours to complete the robot. We met 15 hours a week for a 6-week build period. This followed by local competitions to qualify for the State championship. The top 70 teams at state competition go to the final event in St. Louis, the World Championship. The team and I are very excited to go to the world championship this year.”
Robotics is an amazing way to meet new people and learn the different types of engineering fields available to me… The purpose of robotics is to solve a problem to help human kind.” -Jonathan Sobolnitsky, Member of Team 3098
Before going to “Worlds” the team made it through State Championships which were held April 14-16, 2016. “The robotic competitions demonstrate our skills learned throughout the year. We are given a task to complete as a team by making a robot. This year’s theme is Castle Siege, where our team made the robot so that it can go under a 1.5 foot bar, shoot dodge balls into an 8 foot tower, cross defenses, and scale the tower,“ stated Jonathan.
JVIS would like to congratulate to The Captains for all of their hard work this season!
